It is advised that use of Pellegen occur under the supervision of a healthcare professional. However, as an over-the-counter available material, it is actually safer than common table salt.
Instructions for open wounds such as diabetic ulcers:
  1. The wound must be Debrided and Cleansed.
Debrided (cleaned of dead material – skin, clot, etc.) using the roughness of a gauze 4 X 4 pad
Cleansed (rinsed) with an aqueous, water miscible solution such as hydrogen peroxide or normal saline, etc
  2. Apply Pellegen in a single granular layer
  3. Cover with a gauze pad[s] allowing the wound to “breathe”
  4. If there is increased soreness, redness, swelling, or the wound does not appear to be healing, etc., consult a healthcare professional

Notes:  As long as the wound remains free of necrotic material, fibrin (clot), etc., and there is Pellegen visible, it is not necessary to either add more Pellegen or clean the wound again.
It is difficult to use either too much or too little Pellegen. Preferably, there is a single layer of the granular matrix, and not an excess retaining tissue fluid. Too much material, also, does not allow the wound to “breathe”.
